He was the younger brother-in-law of my aunt and godmother Elikutty (Kunjamma), who was married to the Elanjickal family of Vechoor. God knows why, my uncle (Vakkachan Chittappan) changed the family name, renaming their house(hold) Kusumalayam. Their son, Fr Joseph (Sajeev) is my confrere in the CMI, and had been my coworker for almost 7 years at Sacred Heart College. Their elder brother's son, Fr George, is a member of the Vincentian order.
മായോൾ അച്ചൻ - ഒരു മായാവി അച്ചൻ തന്നെ. ഇത്രയും നീണ്ട എന്റെ ഇഹ ലോക ജീവിതത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹവും ഞാനും ഒരേ പട്ടണത്തിൽ, ഏകദേശം 20 കി. മി. ദൂരത്ത്, ഏഴ് വര്ഷക്കാലത്തോളം ജീവിച്ചെങ്കിലും, ഞങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ കണ്ടത് കേവലം ഒന്നോ, രണ്ടോ പ്രാവശ്യം മാത്രം.
ആ അവസരം ഇപ്പോഴായിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ അത് അനേക മടങ്ങ് ആയിപ്പോയേനെ. വീടും നാടും ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ബെനെഡിക്‌റ്റൈൻ സന്ന്യാസം കൈവരിച്ച മായോൾ അച്ചൻ പിന്നെ തിരിഞ്ഞു നോക്കിയിട്ടില്ല.
പുത്തൻപുര അച്ചനോടൊപ്പം ആണ് ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സന്ദർശിച്ചത്. പിന്നെ പല തവണ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചെങ്കിലും ജീവിതത്തിലെ മുൻഗണകളിൽ അത് പെട്ടില്ല. പിന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം ശയ്യാവലംബി ആയതും, മരണപ്പെട്ടതും ഒക്കെ.
അദ്ദേഹം എന്റെ മുൻപിൽ വിരിക്കുന്നതു നിശ്ശബദതയുടെയും നിസ്വതയുടെയുമ് ഒരു ചിത്രമാണ്.,
