My small family - Payyappilly-Palakkappilly

Palakkappillil Xavier and Thressiamma

April 14, 2026, Vishu

It was my younger brother, Dr Saju's new place, being blessed. He is trying to think worldly wise - to have an investment with returns that will take care of their needs partially, post his practice as a regular medical practitioner. OMG!! These are real concerns of people with their families - and I am set free from all such concerns! How much dedication to the Kingdom and its establishment should I show for that freedom!!  OMG, Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done!!

Glad to get this picture of Ammachi and Icayan, enhanced by Lijo (h/o Lisa). They look happy, and I think it was the occasion of the golden jubilee of their wedding - sometime in December 2001. But ten years from there, I found their smiles vanished, and life becoming dull; Ammachi turning morose, perhaps both of them having nothing to do to expend their time. Since then I have felt the need for systems that could help the elderly of a locality to engage their time meaningfully, without having to be institutionalised.

This image was captured by my niece, Lisa/Lijo (I guess so); there was a head facing me in the picture. Perhaps, of my niece Linda.  I am glad that I could edit that off, to keep my animated mood, exclusive. Also, I am glad that I am able to do this editing, without ever having been instructed by anyone that we could do such things. (I didn't think of AI help, which Lijo did with the black-and-white picture given in the end. There were many unwanted elements in the picture, and in a matter of seconds, they are gone, with AI assistance).

It is a mighty thing to realise that almost all of us are retired people according to the standards of Viksit Keralam - past 55, except Anu and Paul, who are also not very far from that point.  And yet, the Divine Providence has kept us all alive, and on our two legs still!!
My Family - For me, we have been thus, for over 50 years!! Praise the Lord

Our 9-some team began to swell in 1979, with the arrival of Davis Chettan (Dr Davis Paul Puthussery) on the scene, and the latest addition was in 2004, I think, with the entry of June. Since then, we have been a compact 17!
My nieces and nephews!! And some grand-nephews and nieces as well. That makes us appaappans and ammaammas. I am glad that they were there. However, we did miss Dennis and his wife Niya, and the daughter Niara. The Lt Colonel and family are in Bhopal.  We also missed Vijay, the pitiless traveller exploring the great and vast common home, revealing some of its intricate shades. He is currently in Munich, Germany.  Our nephew Tony, who is now employed with EY in Kakkanad, is also missing.  And sure, our oldest nieces, Daya and Divya, with their families in Australia, are also missing. That is indeed a big family for us now!! Now it is not all that easy to have a gathering when all of us would be there together!

It was Saju's new home at Maradu. Hardly 3 kilometres from our ancestral home. Our cousin Rev. Dr Joseph Kusumalayam, for us, Sajeev, did the blessing.

And on my part, I shared a short reflection on the Gospel of Luke 19:1-8, where Zacchaeus is recived by Jesus, and in turn, his house is declared as 'saved'! Wow!! What a great experience! I hope that my entry to homes and engagement with people make them feel 'saved' without having to say that. And may all our homes invite Jesus to be our permanent guest!
