Passing away
Tatha gatah! Thus gone by!!
They thus go by
They just pass by
And passing by, they pass away
Into oblivion - from a presence to absence
An existence to nothingness.
From today to mere yesterdays
From just another name to fame or flame.
Taming towering names to shame.
People used to pass by us yesterday
Pass away 'just like that' today
In many a mode or way
Vanish thus they
Tyre Nichols just twenty-nine
To be tired of life, t'was not yet time
In a fit of frenzy, he let go some fire
And is caught so fast by guards of life
Eager to protect 'life' took his life
And He, all eager to live his life
Yearning for his mom and kin, lost his life!
In the US it is hai hai!
It's white vs black, it's all race my boy
But this for once is all black then why
Oh, it's power n' police n' force we cry
It's hot topic for the politician
It's news feed for the media
It's concern for intelligentsia
It's debate for academia
But for Tyre and many like him
In the US and in the states across the world
It's state terror on powerless people
Who lose their lives for 'the great common good'.
People who pass us by
May be a Tyre Nichols
May be the scores perished in Peshawar
May be the dozens put to death in Palestine
May be the two and three slain in Algeciras of Spain
Or the several across the churches, schools and malls in the States!
All the time while the protector state becomes aggressor
Within its land as in Iran for years
On its people as in Syria for decades
Or Somalia for months
Or as Russians in Ukraine beyond its boundaries
Oh my God! Where are you? Are you still there presiding over us?
How do you let this happen if you were there?
What bloody explanation do we give to these leela or tandav that
we helplessly behold
All the while we remain beholden to You as the author of life!
